Jeff Mauro’s Food items Network profession bought off to a rocky — and agonizing — commence.

The Holiday Wars host, 45, scored his have clearly show, Sandwich King, just after successful time 7 of Food items Community Star in 2011. “The then–head of programming flew in to observe my first episode, to Chicago, exactly where we were filming, and I was chopping cilantro with a model new, super-sharp, attractive knife,” Mauro exclusively advised Us Weekly on Thursday, December 14. “And I went to go swipe the cilantro, like we have a tendency to do, off the knife, and I just misjudged it. And when I swiped it, the cilantro came off with some of my thumb.”

The harm brought on the whole set to “shut down creation,” Mauro explained. “Someone’s like, ‘Find the thumb,’ you know, not the entire thumb, but like, ‘Cauterize it. Get it on,’” he recalled. “But we had to very seriously shut it down for hours to sort of wait around for the bleeding to stop. And then, for continuity, you could not have a Band-Assist. It is a full point that I learned about.”

As for the lesson the chef took from the incident? “If you are going to cut your self, make guaranteed it is the to start with take of the day, not the final just one,” he joked.

The head of programming who was on established eased Mauro’s worries by revealing he was not the only star to have a chopping board mishap. “[They said], ‘You know, Rachael Ray lower her finger for her first day on her 1st choose on the very first episode of her present,’” Mauro explained to Us.

With his most important on-established mishap out of the way, Mauro went on to host Sandwich King from 2011 to 2014 prior to appearing on several other cooking displays, which include Guilty Pleasures, Cooks vs. Drawbacks, Chopped, The Most effective Point I At any time Ate, Beat Bobby Flay and Worst Cooks in America.
